About the Project
Wadi Taiba Office is an open-plan workplace fitted out inside a bare floor plate. Rather than hide the soffit, the design paints the ducting and service runs out and hangs hexagonal light frames and planting below them, so the ceiling reads as one deliberate surface instead of a patch of building. Workstations sit behind curved glass screens along one side; the other is given over to shared use — a counter with high stools, and a meeting table that doubles as a table-tennis table.
The Challenge
The floor was handed over as a shell: an exposed soffit carrying ducting, copper runs and open cable tray, festoon work lamps on chains, drywall taped but unpainted, and steel stud partitions still standing open. A gabled recess had been formed in one wall, and the first joinery carcasses were already on the floor in raw board — a plan committed to before any of the finishes were.
Our Approach
The design works with what the shell had already fixed. The gabled recess is lined and upholstered into a two-person work nook rather than being flattened back to a wall. The soffit stays exposed and is painted out so the light frames and the planted edge read against it. Storage repeats the position of the carcasses that were already set out, and the open half of the floor is kept clear for a table that can be worked at or played on.
